The London Buddhist Vihara is a leading centre
for Theravada Buddhism. Formed in 1926 by Anagarika Dharmapala,
the Vihara was the first Buddhist monastery to be established outside
the continent of Asia. |

The Pali Text Society was founded in 1881 by T.W. Rhys Davids "to foster and promote the study of Pali texts ". It publishes Pali texts in roman characters, translations in English and ancillary works including dictionaries, concordance, books for students of Pali and a journal. |
Shokoku-ji, one of the major Rinzai Zen temples
in Kyoto offers an English website, which includes the world-famous
Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji. Its Museum houses some of the finest
Zen paintings, including the Bull Herding Pictures. |

| His Holiness the 14th the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso, is the head of state and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. He was born Lhamo Dhondrub on 6 July 1935, in a small village called Taktser in northeastern Tibet. Born to a peasant family, His Holiness was recognized at the age of two, in accordance with Tibetan tradition, as the reincarnation of his predecessor the 13th Dalai Lama, and thus an incarnation Avalokitesvara, the Buddha of Compassion. |
